Sense South Beach Hotel
The neon lit hotels along Ocean Drive are the heart and soul of the Art Deco District, the most architecturally significant part of South Beach. Utilized as a backdrop for fashion photo shoots, television programs and major motion pictures, the popular seaside promenade has the landmarks most people imagine when they talk about Miami Beach. Just 15 streets long, the upper and lower parts of the strip are a bit more quiet and offer guests a chance to be near the action without suffering the noise and crowds. The brand new Sense South Beach Hotel is a smaller boutique property at the southern end of Ocean Drive in the area called “SoFi” for South of Fifth Street. Only a year old, the property has garnered critical acclaim for it’s green design, personal service and modern interiors.
Like many smaller properties along the strip, the Sense Hotel is just a few floors high and offers a serene refuge at the rooftop pool deck for guests more interested in a relaxing escape than a sceney resort atmosphere. Targeting travelers with a moderate budget, the hotel has both king and double bedded rooms with city and (partially obstructed) ocean views. Furnished with Nature Sleep Memory Foam beds, 32″ flat panel TVs and wireless T1 internet connections, each room features iPod docking stations, chic white decor and modern bathroom fixtures. As part of their Green Initiative, hotel designers have equipped rooms with motion sensors and key card docking stations that activate lights and air conditioning only during occupancy.
The Sense Hotel is a newly constructed property, not a renovated Art Deco hotel and has little of the size and space restrictions encountered at some vintage properties. Guests at the front of the hotel enjoy small balconies overlooking Ocean Drive and the South Beach scene. With just 18 rooms, the intimate scale is ideal for solo travelers, romantic getaways or quiet family escapes. Staff members are available to direct you to nearby restaurants, bars and nightclubs but there is currently no restaurant on site. For a simple, modern oasis that’s close to everything but feels entirely private, check into the Sense South Beach.
